The Grenada historical tour has been designed in consultation with Grenadian historians Alister and Margaret Hughes, and it’s a great gateway through which you’ll travel back in time and discover the island’s fascinating past. Your insight into the rich history of the island starts as you first learn about the early Amerindian settlers, the Kalinago, who arrived in Grenada over 1,500 years ago. Continue your journey and observe the beautiful Georgian architecture along the Carenage, an inner harbor often referred to as the “Portofino of the Caribbean.” Listen to your guide tell you about the history behind the “Christ of the Deep,” a beautiful statue commemorating a heroic rescue mission by Grenadian fishermen located here. Stop at the Maurice Bishop International Airport, where you’ll visit two monuments commemorating American and Cuban lives lost during the American Intervention in 1983. Once in St. George, you’ll stop by different historical sites and monuments that keep even more memories of times long past and battles won.
